John Paul Farmer

John Paul Farmer is the Global Head of Public Sector at Stripe, where he is responsible for building the company's business with governments, educational institutions, and nonprofits across the 50+ countries in which it operates. He sits on the Board of Directors of Sand Technologies and is the President of Tomorrow.City USA.

Previously, John Paul served as the 3rd Chief Technology Officer of New York City, where he developed the NYC Artificial Intelligence Strategy, the NYC Internet of Things Strategy, and the NYC Internet Master Plan. As NYC CTO, John Paul also co-chaired the 50-member Cities Coalition for Digital Rights.

In the private sector, as the President of WeLink Cities, John Paul delivered revolutionary millimeter-wave broadband technology to communities in need. He was Director of Microsoft Cities, where he used technologies such as data science and machine learning to improve access to public services. As a faculty member at Columbia University, he led research teams advising the US Mission to the UN on artificial intelligence and other key technology issues. In President Barack Obama's Administration, John Paul served as the Senior Advisor for Innovation at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he co-founded and led the Presidential Innovation Fellows program. Early in his career, John Paul played professional baseball in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves minor league systems.

John Paul holds an AB with honors from Harvard University and an MBA with honors from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the University of Pennsylvania's Institute for Urban Research.
